9 Simple Drills For Initiating Contact

It’s summer hockey camp season so we’ve been out on the ice a lot helping our girls take their game to the next level.

One area we’re spending a lot more time focusing on this summer is teaching the girls how to INITIATE CONTACT in order to win more races and battles. In speaking with our players and their parents, we’ve realized that many players have never really been taught how to give and receive contact safely to both protect themselves and gain/keep possession of the puck.

So I wanted to share this simple 9 drill progression with you that focuses on initiating contact when you’ve already got possession of the puck.

You’ll see a mix of players from U9 all the way up to U18 doing the drill. None of the girls had done these particular drills before so they are definitely learning on the go and there is A LOT of room for improvement. Gotta start somewhere!

I will share some drills to teach initiating contact when you don’t have possession of the puck in a future edition of the newsletter.

Check out the 3 videos featuring the 9 simple drills here:

  1. Stationary Drills For Initiating Contact with Puck

2. Moving Linear Drills For Initiating Contact with Puck

3. Around Circle Drills For Initiating Contact with Puck

Try these drills out and keep working on BUILDING THE WALL.

Work Hard. Dream BIG. Build The Wall.
