Pros & Cons of Summer Hockey
Throughout April and May, I get a lot of emails & calls about “spring/summer hockey”.
I’m sure we could debate for hours about the value of playing on a
spring/summer hockey team.
There is no doubt that playing in spring and summer tournaments
is FUN. It’s a welcome change from the focused intensity of the season.
But is it actually going to make you BETTER?
I believe that players need to spend the summer getting stronger, faster,
more fit and working on individual skills. Playing in spring and summer
tournaments won’t accomplish that. In fact, you run the risk of getting
burned out from too many games. And even if you are training off the ice
and working on individual skills, a 3 day tournament where you play 5+
games is going to leave you too tired to really get high-quality training
done during the week.
I know – training OFF the ice and working on powerskating, shooting,
stickhandling and passing ON the ice isn’t as fun as playing a game.
We can all agree on that.
BUT great players do the “not so fun” stuff in the summer.
Sure…
They miss the camaraderie of the dressing room.
They miss joking around with their teammates.
They miss that feeling of excitement before and during games.
But when they hit the ice for training camp and pre-season tournaments,
they are so excited to be back “in the game” and ready to dominate
because of all the hard work they put in to their fitness and skills in the summer.
Great players are made in the gym.
Away from the spotlight.
Working hard to improve their individual skills.
When their coaches and teammates aren’t watching.
So if you want to impress this fall, switch it up this summer.

ONLY 7 SPOTS LEFT FOR OUR SUMMER TRAINING TEAM
The Total Female Hockey Summer Training Team isn’t for everyone.
It is BY FAR the most INTENSE program we run ON & OFF the ice.
Every session includes 1 hour of on-ice high-intensity skill development
and 1.5 hours of off-ice training designed specifically to get you as ready
as possible to hit the ice in the fall. In fact, our goal is to make sure that
you are more than just ready – we want you to be ready to dominate.
So we’re going to push you and you’re going to push each other in order
to make sure you make your mark right away once the season starts.
The program runs for 8 weeks through July and August on Tuesday and Thursday
nights from 6pm to 830pm at Buckingham Arena.
We have 8, 12 and 16 session packages available.
