Position Specific Summer Camp

DATES: Mon Aug 11th through Thurs Aug 14th at Scotiabank Pond – 10am to 1pm

l

LOCATION: All camps are at Scotiabank Pond Arena in Toronto.

DURATION: Players are on the ice for 3 consecutive hours each day with a flood/snack break between each hour.

We have a 5:1 student/instructor ratio. Players are placed in smaller groups based on age and ability level so that players are challenged appropriately and can build confidence.

Here’s what we’re focusing on by position at camp:

DEFENSE:

The defense group will focus on defensive skating to close the gap & keep opponents to the outside, by first building the foundations of edgework/ balance and working on generating power in backwards skating. We will also work towards making better decisions on the breakout as well as contributing offensively to the game by shooting harder, faster and smarter from the point.

Defense schedule for the week:

  • 1st hour on ice each day:
Skating focus – backwards power skating, edge control and deception, transitions, pivots, speed and movement.
  • 2nd hour on ice each day:
Puck focus – passing and puck movement, shooting from the point, angling skills and gap control, escape moves
  • 3rd hour on ice each day:
Battles and 1 on 1s – protecting and moving pucks under pressure, 1 on 1s in open ice and off the wall, understanding when to pressure vs contain an attacker

FORWARDS:

The forward group will work on creating better scoring chances with better shot selection, effective passing and cleaner dekes. We will focus on the skating and puck skills required to break the puck out under pressure, winning battles and 1 on 1s in open ice and off the wall and learning how to use timing and support to create space and speed on the attack.

Forwards schedule for the week:

  • 1st hour on ice each day:
Skating focus – Power, speed and edge control, weight shifts and deception
  • 2nd hour on ice each day:
Puck focus – dekes in open ice and in tight, shooting to score with quick releases and changing the shot angle, driving the net
  • 3rd hour on ice each day:
Battles and 1 on 1s – protecting and moving pucks under pressure, 1 on 1s in open ice and off the wall, using deceptive skating to create time and space for the attack
