The OTHER Greatest Goal of All Time
In last week’s video, I broke down what I consider to be the greatest goal of all time in women’s hockey – Marie Philip Poulin’s gold medal winning goal from the 2022 Olympics (check it out here).
But, you could argue that MPP scored an even better one this year in a plain old regular season PWHL game against the Toronto Sceptres…
...The Poulin Superwoman Goal!
It was certainly more spectacular. I’ve never seen anything like it before in the women’s game. It had the whole hockey/sports world talking AND I even had my daughter’s U9 team trying to replicate it out on the ice the next morning.
But it also wasn’t a gold medal winning goal – so it finishes slightly behind the other goal I shared by Captain Clutch 😉
So check out the video below where I breakdown the other greatest goal of all time by the GOAT – the Poulin Superwoman Goal!
Here are the 4 key moments that make the Superwoman Goal so spectacular:
- This is a 5v3 situation: It’s not a penalty kill for Montreal but they are in the middle of a change. So Poulin manufactures this entire sequence when Toronto has all 5 players back and inside the dot lines with good defensive positioning.
- The Poulin Poise: If there is a more poised player in hockey, I’m not sure I’ve seen them. Poulin cuts east-west into quite the crowd here and instead of losing the puck or throwing a weak shot on net, she’s constantly scanning the ice and makes a world-class feed to Ambrose for a quick one-time shot. No one scans more and scans more effectively than Poulin.
- Eyes On The Puck: I must tell player to know where the puck is more than most other coaching cues I use, and Poulin does it better than anyone else. The ability to take this HUGE hit and figure out where the puck is while she’s still falling – that’s out of this world level awareness. Most players wouldn’t get up from that hit. Some might wave their stick at that rebound. But no one else shoots it like that after that kind of hit.
- Laser Beam Finish: This is the most impressive part of all the impressive parts. She didn’t just get a shot off. She managed to arrange all her body parts to get a laser beam off that beats the tendy high glove. All while she’s falling and her momentum is going away from the net.
We’re not worthy.
