Will This Be Your Best Season Ever?

This is what we all want, isn’t it?

For THIS season to be the best season we’ve ever had.

Over the course of my hockey career (both on the ice and behind the bench),
I’ve been pretty fortunate to win more than a few league titles, provincial
championships and national championship medals. I’ll be honest, my best
hockey memories are all from the teams I played on that did more than their
fair share of winning and, in almost every case, overachieved for what they
were on paper.

And yet at the start of each and every season, I want to do better than that.

And I’m sure that no matter how your team’s season ended up last season,
you want to achieve more this year. That’s human nature.

So what are you going to do about it?

You can just show up at the rink, work hard at practice, compete hard in games,
and do your best to win tournaments. But that’s what every team is doing this
season. No one goes into a game or tournament wanting to be just “OK”.

Everyone should be working hard and competing their hardest – so what are
you going to do to set yourself apart?

Whether it’s having a specific mental performance plan in place for your team,
nutrition guidance on when and what to eat in order to achieve your peak
performance or how to get (and keep) the team in great shape all season long,
you’ve got to do more than just show up at the rink and do the work on the ice.
The days of skating your way into shape, eating what you want and skipping
out on preparing mentally to perform physically are long gone. The best teams
take care and take control of those details.

Some things we can’t control though. Injuries, scheduling issues and a lack of team
chemistry both on and off the ice can be enough to bring a talented team down.
All of us can share stories where we came off a tournament where we played 5 or 6
games and then had to play 3 or 4 league games in a row immediately afterwards.
Or times when all of our best goal scorers were hurt at the same time and we needed
our secondary scorers to step up to the plate. And I’m sure that there isn’t a player
or team out there who has gone a season where team “drama” never came into play.
All of those scenarios can make or break a season.

The truth is we could all sit here and make excuses about the things we can’t control.

But as a close coaching friend of mine always says, “Excuses are for losers.”
I know that’s crude – but it’s true.

Champions have a PLAN in place that allows them to succeed even when these
issues pop up along the way. They take care of the “not so sexy” details like
proper nutrition, have a mental performance plan in place and take their fitness
seriously so that they can stay injury-free and playing their best all season long.
They know issues will come along, but they are well-equipped to deal with them.
They don’t leave things up to chance.

In the “Best Hockey Season Ever” manual, I walk you through the 6 secrets
of in-season success step-by-step so that you can start using it immediately
to take your performance to the next level this year.

In it, I give you a complete guide for:
– Mental Performance
– Off-Ice Training
– Nutrition
– Proper Warm-ups and Cool-downs
– On-Ice Conditioning
– Recovery

These are all essential pieces of the elite performance puzzle. Neglecting
one of these keys areas could be the detail that unravels your whole season.
Dehydration takes performance down at least 10-20%. Improper warm-ups
and cool-downs lead to more games lost to injury. And we all know that if
your players lack the focus, composure and confidence needed to perform
their best, your team’s success will be limited.
